Peter answered this well. I'll give some input as well... 😁 I work in the operating rooms in the US. I use the wraps they use to sterilize trays in to make ruff patterns. It's free and has a decent firmness. I staple it together. After that, since I order alot of second quality leather. I will sometimes fully make it from scrap leather. Especially smaller items like custom pocket slips. Then I send the scrap to the customer to make sure the knife, pen, flashlight or what not fits. If it does, I make the final item. PS Don't make custom pocket slips. They are a pain in the butt.

I like to do two or three applications of edge dye before applying an edge finish such as Fenice, Giardini, or Uniters. When the edge finish does eventually begin to wear off, there will still be a related color underneath.

yes you cut out a triangle just a little but shorter than the length of the patch.

I am almost 100% sure this is machine stitching. You have an upper and lower thread (which is a seperate small spool) in a sewing machine. This way you can use a different color for the outside and inside. I don’t think you can achieve this with saddle stitching.

I would repair/reglue/polish the original leather.

Hi Malik, those would be some kind of granite or stone. I got mine as remnants from a kitchen countertop installer. You can also get them from tool sellers--machinists use them. On Amazon they're called granite surface plates. Some leather tool suppliers also sell them but may be expensive to ship due to the weight.
