ok guys! so yes apparently its due to the softness @gx chia i switched to some soft garment type leather during the test because its quite a waste to test on perlinger’s, no problem anymore after switching back to perlinger’s again. but what causes the thing to restore is still a myth to me because it wasnt working in the first place with perlinger’s thus the whole hoohaa.. but the few things to look out is - grinding stone - knife - tension spring, i set to 4-5 counting from the outside to inside

I have two Hektar pendant lamps from IKEA with 800 lumen bulbs. I also have a large south facing window that provides most of the light in my studio. Above all that I have a large set of string lights to help fill in any dark areas. There’s also a task lamp I can move around if I need it. Not sure if that helps. Good luck.

@Edgar Welch I invested some months ago in a Nippy Skimini (https://skimini.jp/en/) and I am super happy with this purchase. Depending on your leather, it does clean bevel skive and also split skive of panels (there are quite some demos on Youtube). A big plus besides the quality of this machine is its suitability for using in a flat (not occupying too much space, not being noisy for the neighbours), super easy to setup, and the great customer service. Depending of your needs, downsides could be that it is unsuitable for extremely thick or hard leathers, and the need of replacement blades. I never worked with a bell skiver, but the upgrade from hand skiving to the Skimini is substantial and it opened me the door to so much more projects.

You can just get teflon tape to wrap on your existing foot and test that. its cheaper and if you feel like its something helpful and always in use then you could get the teflon foot.
