Hello Peter and everyone here! It's been a year since I dedicated myself to a full time leatherwork, and I would like to thank you, Mr Nitz for motivating me to take this step. Your tutorials and the way you teach (everything looks easy and accomplishable for a complete beginner) opened my eyes and gave me the knowledge I've been looking for years. There is still much to learn and a lot of hard work ahead to achieve perfection and a level I seek, but here is one of my bags.... designed as a transformative purse - from elegant clutch bag to a shoulder bag, inspired by a metamorphosis of nature - a reflection of sea waves and sand beach shifting beauty. For those who I have yet not met, my name is Eero and I run Arte Helsinki - from Helsinki, Finland. Somehow most of my clients are watch enthusiasts and watch straps are about 90% of what I do. I have been a massive fan for some time now and want to take this moment to thank you guys for this and the awesome tutorials so far. I am not new in leathercraft, but I still find the tutorials good and interesting. Some things here and there are new, some I do differently but the best part is to get a new perspective on some things. And new ideas! Morning all! Mr. Nitz, I just added a bell skiver to my life and was just wanting to ask a quick question. do you keep your feed roll perfectly parallel to the knife edge? I notice in your videos you only adjust your presser foot depth and angle. also would you suggest switching to a rubber style vs "stone" feed roll? There is not enough discussion of bell knife skiver presser feet, beyond the different lengths. I thought deburring and mirror polishing feet of any origin would be enough, but there seems to be more to consider. I have many inexpensive presser feet from China that I have polished to a mirror finish. These work fine for edge skiving but do not necessarily give the best results for panel skiving. Most of these presser feet seem to have a steep beveled curve that provides full contact with the leather just before the knife edge. From observations of online videos, it seems that people who are getting more reliable results panel skiving are using a presser foot with only a very slightly beveled curve, almost a flat curve. I hope we can use this space to share experiences with and pictures of presser feet that work well.

Hello Everyone! I am not sure if such discussion is permitted on this Forum or not - but seeing that we have such a high-level global audience here, I'd really love to know your thoughts! I am personally still learning the craft, however I see myself being a leather craftsman, obtaining the required certification and establishing a brand. However at the moment I do not see myself as a "designer" - perhaps it is lack of experience, but I have difficulty coming up with an entirely unique design - instead I like to look at a product, work-out a pattern for it and perhaps change a few things to my taste (ok, mostly my Wife's taste :) ) and create that. I see many craftspeople on Instagram who create gorgeous items - and some of them are basically the same as "name brand" products (most of the time even higher quality than the original!!). So what I'd like to know is as an established brand - what are the ethical/legal views on this? Is, for example, making a Birkin style bag "copycatting"? Or can it be sold under your own name? Of course, my dream - as probably most of yours too - is to create a unique design that when someone sees they immediately know who it is made by - but in the meantime a business needs to grow somehow. I am just starting my leather journey. I used to work in the custom picture framing industry years ago and enjoyed the combination of design and crafting. I have wanted to start working with my hands again and fell upon leather craft during COVID. I like the idea of being able to start in a small space as I do not have access to a workshop at the moment. After delaying for the past year, I have decided to get going. Mainly because my kids keep calling me out on my procrastination ;) My wife found @atelierpeternitz through a random Google search and then I found @Alex Dorandish and @Julien Danel through IG. Alex was kind enough to return my message and convinced me this was the right set of tutorials. I am in the process of ordering tools and getting a small work area setup. Having some accountability is good for me, so I hope to document my process and use this forum to help with that. Many thanks to all those who have offered help here to us newbies Cheers, Daniel

Hello, what are your experiences with servomotors, please? I am new to bell skiver, and need to replace old 3phase clutch motor with a 230V one, as I can't run it at my place... Heard about servomotors, but not sure about power, nor brand... Thanks! Juraj

Hi, I am using my electric creaser to finish ends of zipper tapes as well as iron edge paint, but the melted zipper tape and burnt (oops) edge paint is very hard to clean off of the creaser head. Does anyone have any cleaning tips? Thanks!!

Hey Peter, and other members, I'm tring to design a purse and I dont know where to get nice brass closures and D rings. Does anyone know where I can get something high quality and works well? Thank you Kenan.
