- Is this real Saffiano ?En Help! How do I...31 December 2024This isnt Saffiano, it is what is referred to as "Epsom" (actually Hermes's name for it). There is no such thing as "real" epsom as there are many tanneries that produce this exact embossed finish. The back side is the flesh side of the leather, nothing is glues to it. You see like a pattern to it from the embossing process and what you see as the top layer from the back where its cut is the heavily coated and embossed top layer of the skin. Hope this helps.22
- Tailor made hardwareEn Help! How do I...22 June 2024Hello, I design my own hardware for my handbag brand Cecily Clune and use Maya Metal in China. Their quality is first class. They can design it with you if it is simple but for more complex designs, I had to use an industrial designer and send the file to them to execute and then it was a process of finding the best practical method of attachments to make it work. It took several attempts but they are very patient. Libby Thomson12
- Thread tricksEn Beginner's Corner24 July 2024Hi Cathy, Yes it is very tightly twisted. The trick is to make sure and pinch it with one hand and with the other hand twist it but make sure you pinch only a few mm away from where you other hand is pinching it. this way you really force the twist only in this small part.12
- Paraffin wax & Ecostick1816BEn Beginner's Corner24 June 2024I wouldn't know where to get the paraffin wax but you can order the ecostick directly by contacting info@intercomsas.it When I ordered mine the minimum order quantity was 10 kg (divided into 2 bags of 5 kg). It's fantastic glue though definitely the best I have used and easy to store.12

- Lizard Skin LiningEn Help! How do I...·14 March 2021I recently picked up a really nice lizard skin. Comes in at about .3mm it looks like. What thickness should I line it with for an average exterior on a men’s bifold wallet? Thanks!02132
- Hand press and cutting diesEn Help! How do I...·25 June 2021Does anyone have experiences with a hand press and (small) cutting dies? For details and smaller items. If so what (and where) did you get it and how do you like it? Both the press and the dies? I have used a clicker press before during an internship but it was huge and something like that won’t fit in my atelier. And I just need it for smaller items. I know @atelierpeternitz has recommended Industrial Design Concept on Instagram but I’m not sure if they sell a hand press so I would like to know what is available and recommended. I have also seen a hand press on the website of Mando. Has anyone used this and what are your thoughts? Thank you in advance.02150
- Practical questions regarding selling exotics internationallyEn Help! How do I...·12 July 2021Hello Peter and everyone else, I have some practical business questions when it comes to selling exotics. How does it work to sell exotic items internationally? For example what are the custom duties and are there any extra fees? How do returns work? What happens if you make 3 items out of one skin with one Cites certificate? Do you just add copies of the certificate? And what is the most practical payment method for sales like this? I hope everyone here can give me some more insight on these topics. Kind regards, Talitha Joy02147

- Music - Food for the SoulEn Welcome! ·28 November 2021How do, all? I wasn't certain where to put this topic, hence here it is at the start. Being a lover of all genres of music, I've always had it as a companion on my leathercrafting journey. Mostly jazz, to be honest, but the dulcet tones of Annie Lennox and Amy Lee are no strangers to my workshop as are everything from Chopin & Enigma to Metallica. I've never considered a tutorial a suitable place for an accompanying soundtrack but boy have I been mistaken here. The sort of Zen-esque tracks on Peter's tutorials I feel add an extraordinary dimension, are mildly hypnotic and serve to enrapture the learning experience and elevate it. Not bad for something that is essentially pure mathematics. Do you include music in your leathercrafting? How does it serve you? And can someone PLEASE tell me what the track from the Zipper Window tutorial is??!!02150
