- Resale value of a restored luxury item - HermèsIn Beginner's Corner5 January 2023Thank you for your answer, the leather is not that bad you're right, but the picture is definitely flattering.. If it was you and you wanted to make the most out of it, this precise item in this precise condition (the leather under the plate is falling apart), which road would to take?0
- Table top boardsIn Help! How do I...24 January 2023The second dark and square plate looks like a machinists' granite surface plate. They come in 2" and 3" thickness and a variety of sizes. I believe machinists use them to calibrate tools because the granite is exceptionally level. If you're in the US, you can get them for a reasonable price at the global behemoth based in Seattle.22

- Has anybody successfully used MeiSi Super Fine linen for machine sewing? In Help! How do I...5 October 2020Hi Talitha, Yes, I have used it in my adler 669 successfully, however, it is very difficult to get the tension perfectly adjusted and it can snap easily, especially the black. I was using M30 size. I didn't do the backstitching with the machine. I stopped it and finished that by hand(I was using the machine for the straps on the micro dream bags. ) I hardly ever use the machine so its always a bit tricky for me finding the correct tension settings. I think the Meisi poly thread might be easier to use on the machine.32
- Hey I wondered if 2 pieces of chevre glued togheter(1.1-1.2mm each panel) will be stiff enough for a small hand bag?In Help! How do I...5 January 2021Salamander you can order directly from the company or email them to give you the contact of the distributor in your country or region. Vildona is a very thin, almost paper-like reinforcment that is made by Freudenberg. I would contact them directly to order.22
- Hey I wondered if 2 pieces of chevre glued togheter(1.1-1.2mm each panel) will be stiff enough for a small hand bag?In Help! How do I...2 January 2021Hi Simen, You should test some panels to see the result but I think the hand may not be so nice with two pieces so thick glued together. If you want your small bag to have a rigid form then I would recommend using a thin reinforcement like salamander or Vildona to add the stiffness and keep you lining loose, not glues down to the exterior. p42

- SharpeningIn Beginner's Corner5 October 2020I use sandpapers, strops and Japanese whetstones to sharpen my tools. Depends on what I need to do. Usually I strop before every cut or skive. Sandpaper (2000 or so) to resharpen a blade or a quick remedy. whetstones to make a total restore of a cutting edge, usually every 1-2 months. Some metals are softer than others so they need a bit more tlc than others.12
- Basic Tools For Beginning LeathercraftIn Beginner's Corner20 March 2021What is the name of the reinforcement tape? I had some before, and used it all. Now I can find it. But what you used looked like what I had. Thanks02
- Inevitable NoiseIn Beginner's Corner8 November 2020Hi Danielle, I made my neighbours hate me the first 6months I started leather working by hammering in my dining room until all hours of the night :-) There are sound dampening mats that you can get to put under your work table to insulate the sound from going to the neighbours below, but i don't know of anything that's going to dampen the sound of the hammer within your own home. I think what MC recommends is a good idea. The KS blades are so sharp you can often push them most of the way through or partly and then the rest using the awl. p22
- Hardware suppliersIn Beginner's Corner25 October 2020Hi Georgia, I know there is a company called MMC Colombo. Their hardware looks like it’s really good quality but I have not bought from them (yet). There is also Bouclerie S. Poursin in Paris. I visited them last month and they have a moq of 20 if I remember correctly. I am also still looking for a good hardware supplier so I will follow this thread.22
