Hi Sharan, It looks like its dk down or black color over lighter leather...is that correct? you could try and find the matching color and very carefully touch up the color inside the scratch line.

thanks peter - i had the impression that hermes used chevre crispee from relma - instead of alran. the grain on mysore looks more like those on relma crispee

Hi Peter, Thanks for the info and prompt reply. I wish I had a skiving machine. That will be my next big investment. I have been using a French skiver so far, but it is very time-consuming and can be quite difficult to get an even skive throughout. Have a great day!

@atelierpeternitz Do you reduce thickness of entire panels on your bell knife skiver, and without making track lines on the grain side?

take a scrap piece of the leather and use some acetone on a q-tip to see if you can "create" a liquid paint from the surface of the scrap. Then use that as your touch up color.

I did try matching the colour with a healing compound, but it just doesn’t set as nicely as I’d like. Sounds like I might have to start over. fml

It can. That’s why you Need to test everything on scraps first!!

Hello. Personally I use for the moment a relatively cheap ones. From Japan. I use them the sign and after I make the holes with a Diamond Awl. 😊 I plan to buy the KS Blades.

did some research while looking for a skiving machine recently. i considered this option. these are china machines that take on a variety of names/brand’s, but commonly known as “801” model. i read the reviews on chinese websites and most are reporting satisfactory performance with it - depending on what motor you hook it up with, the way it functions might also be different. in the end i took the risk and bought a super old FAV skiving machine instead - which suprisingly worked well without and replacement parts. the lack of suction however is indeed a problem especially with splitting, which means i have to manually vacuum the whole area frequently hope it helps~
