I think it depends on how much you want to do awl work. Pricking will required that you develop the skills with the awl in hand. Once developed, you can have some beautiful stitches that are using a very traditional way of stitching leather. Punching all the way through is a little easier. I would encourage you to learn how to stich with the awl in hand as you will eventually need to do it on a piece where you cannot punch all the way through with a chisel.

One of my sources just told me there's not much of a difference. I thought that because 1804 is more viscous maybe I can dilute it a bit to make it spread more like 1816b and create more useable volume. I was told not to dilute it.
